“In the majority of Latin American countries during the year 2001, a 43% of students deserted in higher education and a 60% of them had to quit studying because they had to look for a job and support themselves and their families as well” (Ciudad-Universitaria.com) Nowadays, studying a major in higher education is such essential; the majority of people desire to get a Bachelor degree in order to be well-prepared. Unfortunately, not all of the higher education students have the possibility to conclude their majors. Some of these students need to carry out different labour activities for coping with their needs and some others have to forsake the major they are coursing in order to work in a full-time schedule; as a consequence, desertion is as worriedly as those cases in which people who never had the opportunity to start a bachelor degree, since in both cases students do not get the knowledge to develop a profession. Throughout the country, there exists a certain amount of universities which offer a contingency to have access to them in a determined period of time. Due to such opportunity, during the year 2004, it was counted up about 370.000 new registrations to apply to study in Salvadorian Universities; this number is the same as the 2.31% of the total population of our country. What is alarming is not the low amount of pupils, but the scarce percentage of the schooling rate. According to the MINED only the 4.7% of higher education students attended classes regularly, and the 95.3% of students hardly ever attended classes.

(2018-12-05) Claros Hernandez, William Geovannii; Cornejo Meléndez, Ismael Alexander; Lipe, Balmore Ernesto; Contreras Cárcamo, Mauricio Salvador
The process of learning a second language involves many steps as elements to be consummated. Teachers, resources, and materials are vital to develop this process of reaching a desired level in students. Regarding to material, there have been many studies or arguments that support or encourage the use of them when teaching-learning a second language. The University of El Salvador offers the opportunity to study a second language, and even though the access to technology gives a wide variety of materials and resources, there is still a high level presence of text book material or not authentic material inside the classroom. Despite this fact, many students reach an acceptable level of English at the end of the career; however, theory proposes that results might be considerably different if students were exposed to authentic material in longer periods or at least in more often opportunities. Concerning to one of the most difficult skill, which is listening, they might increase their proficiency level. This research was carried out with the purpose of identifying the relation that exists between the exposure to authentic materials and the Listening proficiency level. The Intensive Intermediate English II students at Foreign Language Department were taken as population for this research. This project presents the results obtained that demonstrate the level of influence that authentic material has in the process of teaching-learning as a second language.

(2021-08-19) Castellanos Ortiz, Karla Andrea; Escobar Tenorio, Nasary Ivanova; Lipe, Balmore Ernesto; Carranza Campos, Miguel Ángel
Making a social impact through community service from university students has demonstrated the importance of knowing how national programs can be the perfect scenario to involve such participation from students in society. This research tries to expose the importance of such relationships and the benefits that the University students, Government, and Society could have from that interaction. In order to accomplish this, data was collected through the revision of the national project “ESCUELA INCLUSIVA DE TIEMPO PLENO'' and a close study to the mission and vision of the institutions involved in this relation; also, coordinators of the national project, as well as coordinators of the SUPS in the Foreign Language Department of the University of El Salvador, were contacted. The results demonstrate the possible benefits that both entities could obtain if a communication strategy for active participation and interaction is established to include the community service from students in the development of national programs such as the one mentioned. With these results, the FLD could create a profile of students to participate in this type of project to generate more experience for students, awareness of the importance of community service, and an important social impact on vulnerable areas of society at a national level.
