    RESUMEN: El desarrollo organizado de una nación requiere del conocimiento de datos básicos de comportamiento del subsuelo, como la geología, la geomorfología, y el conocimiento del comportamiento físico y mecánico de los materiales de la superficie, entre otros, ya que estos materiales afectan, ya sea en forma positiva o negativa, las obras que se planee localizar sobre ellos. Por su parte, la actividad volcánica da lugar a la aparición de edificios volcánicos o volcanes, producto de la acumulación de materiales procedentes del interior de la tierra en un punto. En este caso, los efectos producidos por los mismos se suelen restringir a una zona muy pequeña alrededor del volcán. ABSTRACT: The organized development of a nation requires knowledge of basic data on the behavior of the subsoil, such as geology, geomorphology, and knowledge of the physical and mechanical behavior of surface materials, among others, since these materials affect, either positively or negatively, the works that are planned to locate on them. For its part, volcanic activity gives rise to the appearance of volcanic buildings or volcanoes, the product of the accumulation of materials from the interior of the earth at one point. In this case, the effects produced by them are usually restricted to a very small area around the volcano.
