Assessment of Educational Tools in the Online Modality

Students of the Foreign Language Department have the opportunity to graduate from UES through the e-learning specialization course. This is a new option that emerged because of the covid-19 pandemic. Even though, the coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak poses serious concerns to global education systems. Efforts to contain COVID-19 prompted the unscheduled closure of schools in more than 100 countries worldwide. This course also shows that many educators and students relied on technology to ensure continued learning online during the Coronavirus pandemic. In this document, the research team will explore the different teaching techniques using different learning management systems and educational tools that contemplate the teaching through virtual environments, theories of learning and teaching the change of role from student to the teacher will be analyzed in the present report. This one will be a unique opportunity to put into practice and implement a new methodology for students from the UES language department, in order to obtain their university degree, not only with a thesis but also with a specialization in virtual environments that are very important nowadays. Classroom based performance-feedback influencing advanced English I students´ speaking skill in the target Language at the Foreign Language Department of the University of El Salvador

The research was carried out to provide a relationship between Classroom Based Performance feedback and the influence on students’ speaking skill in the Target Language at the Advanced Intensive English I courses at the Foreign Language Department of the University of El Salvador. The study showed a correlation between Classroom-based performance feedback and students´ speaking proficiency in the Target Language. This research demonstrated the correlation among the two variables mentioned before. Competence Based Performance is a new tendency for teaching a foreign language that emerged in the United States in the 1970s. This new tendency was well accepted and adapted in the United States Educational System as well as this type of teaching was based on what English as Foreign Language (EFL) students could do with the Target Language inside the classroom and they could demonstrate that they were able to do applying the knowledge that they have studied in the class by performing a task in the Target Language (Nunan, 1999). As it is stated in the findings of the present study, there is a strong correlation between Classroom based performance-feedback and students´ speaking proficiency when using the Target Language. The study showed that when professors from Advanced Intensive English I courses at the Foreign Language Department used oral activities (Oral presentations, Dialogues, Role plays, Debates and class discussion) to practice in the classroom, students demonstrated a higher proficiency in their Speaking ability. The main objective of this research was to find out the correlation between classroom based performance feedback and the proficiency that students demonstrated when speaking at the Advanced Intensive English I courses at the Foreign Language Department at the University of El Salvador. By considering this main objective, researchers provided scientific data that could demonstrate the correlation between Classroom Based Performance- Feedback and students´ speaking skill stating the correlation between the two variables. The first specific objective developed by the researchers was to find out what types of classroom based performance feedback were used to promote students’ speaking skill in the Advanced Intensive I courses at the Foreign Language Department at the University of El Salvador. Finally, the last objective was to describe the standards that students from Advanced Intensive I courses from the University of El Salvador are supposed to be reaching in this course. In order to find out the correlation between the two variables stated before; it was necessary to follow some steps. Researchers narrowed the topic down from ‘’ Classroom based performance and students´ speaking skill into Classroom based performance-feedback and students´ speaking skill. Then, researchers had to find out the appropriate literature review to answer the research question that was ‘’How does classroom based performance-feedback influence Advanced Intensive English I students’ speaking skill in the target language at the Foreign Language Department of the University of El Salvador?’’ After reading the literature review, the scholars wrote the statement of the problem and how to approach it. Besides that, the researchers created a survey about classroom based performance activities that were developed in the classroom. Furthermore, researchers piloted the survey to find out if the instrument was practical and reliable. The students that helped researchers out to pilot the survey were twenty students. Researchers made some changes to the survey due to the fact that some students got confused at the moment of completing it. After administering one more time the survey with the appropriate changes, scholars were able to determine which classroom based activities were used in the classroom to increase students’ speaking in the target language. According to the results gotten in the survey, researchers were able to determine that if teachers use Classroom based performance-feedback activities students will develop a higher proficiency when speaking. The most common oral activities used by students from Advanced Intensive I courses were oral presentations, dialogues, role plays, debates, and class discussion. Moreover, researchers concluded that there was a strong correlation between Classroom based performance-feedback and students´ speaking skill in the Target Language since they were able to prove that when teachers use classroom-based performance activities students were able to develop a higher proficiency when speaking.
Common applications used in the Teaching-Learning Process of Foreign Languages

This report aims to highlight the influence of virtual education on the development and improvement of students´ language learning process to identify challenges and issues faced in it. Virtual education has opened a new way to study at the University of El Salvador and different studies made around the world have established that this new digital world has a strong impact on students' learning. This work deals with the first specialization course entitle: The Administration of Virtual Environments for the Teaching and Learning of Foreign Languages. This was developed by the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of El Salvador. The course is a final requirement to obtain the academic degree. It was divided into three modules, and the whole process lasted six months. The most useful technological tools, the most used platforms are presented throughout the report. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages that educational technology present for students at the Department of Foreign Languages at UES are discussed. Digital competencies and the integration of virtual tools for teaching foreign languages

The design of didactic materials has always been a really important ability for the teachers to have when teaching. With the course we received on the design of didactic materials in virtual environments, we have the opportunity to train and improve our ability to use different programs and tools to design materials and activities that can be used in virtual classes to transform a basic or “boring” topic for students into a positive, easy to learn and entertaining one. In this final report, the team will describe the tools that were used and the activities that were created in each module. Also, we will describe how by practicing the use of the tools, we were able to effectively created interesting, useful and correct activities to develop English topics in virtual classes , which will lay a good environment and a successful learning experience not only for student, but also for the teacher. This document describes the experiences of a specialization course on the management of virtual environments for teaching and learning foreign languages. The basics of online education and their application in online English teaching with a learning management system (LMS)—a virtual learning management system — allow educators to manage, administer, organize, evaluate and coordinate learning activities in a virtual setting. The Software applications include Google Classroom/Meet, Edmodo, Microsoft Teams, etc. Also, the correct usage of educational applications such as Edpuzzle, Nearpod, Kahoot, Powtoon, and more. To ensure that the learning process takes place in a virtual environment, the design of didactic content is essential. Integrating technological tools, auditory and visual learners can benefit from the technology during synchronous and asynchronous classes. The use of technology has become an important part of the learning process in and out of the class. Every language class usually uses some form of technology. Technology has been used to both help and improve language learning, and it enables teachers to adapt classroom activities, thus enhancing the language learning process. It continues to grow in importance as a tool to help teachers facilitate language learning for their learners. This report focuses on the role of using new technologies in learning English as a second/foreign language. It discussed different attitudes which support English language learners to increase their learning skills through using technologies. The specialization course: Administration of Virtual Environments for the Teaching and Learning of Foreign Languages was created due to the need of students to continue with the graduation process that was delayed as a consequence of the pandemic and the difficulties in carrying out the thesis project. This course was addressed on the fundamentals of online education and its application on the English Language Teaching conveyed to the virtual or online teaching approach, The main objective of this course was to analyze and identify the importance of Learning Theories for the development of English language teaching methodology, creating materials for virtual learning environments, and apply them in the use of resources related to web 2.0 worth the purpose of involving students in their assignments with a change of environment as learners and as facilitators in their virtual classrooms. How the students’ profile influences the english language competence at the intermediate intensive English I courses of the Foreign Language Department at the University of El Salvador

This study was aimed at determining how students’ profile influences the development of their language competence. It was carried out in order to answer the question “How does students’ profile influence the English language competence at the Intermediate Intensive English I courses of the Foreign Language Department at the University of El Salvador?” In this research, three main aspects of students’ profile were taken into account: extracurricular activities, socio-economic status (SES), and motivation. To collect the data, the instrument selected was a questionnaire, and it was administered to 54 students. Having administered the questionnaires, the students’ profile was divided into advantaged and disadvantaged profile. The results showed that the students’ profile influences them when developing their language competence. This research supported that extracurricular activities influence students’ language competence when they were actively involved in them. This could be clearly reflected in their GPA, grade point average. All those students who were active religious members, active members of a neighborhood committee, or those who belonged to sports teams, or political parties got lower grade point averages than those who were not involved in one or any extracurricular activities.
Implementation of the most effective virtual tools in foreign languages learning

Like in many other countries, education in El Salvador was affected by the pandemic of Covid19 allowing professional educators to adapt to an atypical situation or change by making use of online English language teaching with the help of educational platforms and applications. The two important approaches to take into account in online teaching are a synchronous state which takes place in real-time instructions or classes, and an asynchronous state which can happen at any time and anywhere. With the application of these online platforms and applications, learners can have access to any application on the internet to acquire knowledge and get familiar with the technology. The constant change of mind in people suffering the struggles of the pandemic made online education the best option to create a safe environment for children with the help of teachers who decided to create educational courses. One of the most effective and important courses implemented in the Foreign Language Department, that helps the instructor and the learner is called: ¨ Administración de Ambientes Virtuales para la Enseñanza y Aprendizaje de Idiomas Extranjeros.¨ This course gives the necessary information and explain the importance of some educational tools and applications described in this paper to the learners with three main modules carefully developed and relayed by specialist carried out during six months, that are: 1- Online English Language Teaching, 2- Educational Applications for Learning a Foreign Language, 3-Design of Didactic Materials for Virtual Environments. In the modules previously mentioned each learner was given with the accurate information and then asked to perform and activity for a better understanding of the knowledge. Importance of technological tools and virtual education to teach english as a second lenguage

This project presents an overview of E-learning and how a virtual environment is beneficial in the teaching and learning process. Using technological tools and virtual environments is important even in face-to-face courses. Therefore, learning how to use the available technological tools and applying them effectively to the teaching and learning process is a real challenge for teachers. During the specialization course, students learned about the importance of e-learning and how to use online tools and platforms effectively in the teaching and learning process. This report also provides information about how the technological tools became even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also provides an insight about the type of technological tools learned during the specialization course, providing its most outstanding characteristics, and we also include some examples in each type of tool. Finally, students mention ways to apply technological tools efficiently in education. The research team presents the most remarkable features and benefits from both the perspective of teachers and students. Management of virtual tools for the teaching and learning of foreign languages

Education is constantly adapting to the circumstances. Many future professionals have been prepared to be the means of bringing education in a more accessible and modern way to any place, any time, and especially to those people who have the desire to continue learning in a more accessible environment. Therefore, to supply the significant demand for learning and how inaccessible this can be nowadays, the University of El Salvador looked for other alternatives to facilitate pedagogy by approving an online course on the administration of virtual environments for the teaching and learning foreign languages in July 2021. Through this online course, students have been provided with several tools to teach and learn a foreign language in a virtual classroom through an online environment; the course is made up of three modules that have been introduced in six months. In this way, students have been able to experience a thoroughly modern method within the reach of many people. The benefits of the use of technological tools in virtual environments

The COVID-19 pandemic forced schools and universities to teach their classes online since the sanitary situation did not allow students and teachers to attend physical places. The University of El Salvador was no exception, both, teachers and students had to adapt to this situation; last year students from the majors of the Foreign Language Department could not continue or even start their research work since they could not meet their research partners and advisors. Therefore, in the attempt of relieving the need graduate students from the Foreign Language Department had to obtain their diploma, the authorities opted for the creation of the Specialization Course: Administration of Virtual Environments for The Teaching and Learning of Foreign Languages. It was an alternative to the regular graduation process through research work. In order to highlight the importance, the implementation of the course had, this report provides context to how COVID-19 has affected education and the importance of online education nowadays. Besides, it defines and describes the meaning of vital concepts in online education such as learning theories, virtual learning environments, and Learning Management Systems. The report also describes the activities that were developed during the three modules of the course, and it points out the achievements the research team had. Additionally, it provides conclusions and recommendations that can help authorities to polish the course content for future implementations. The impact of technological tools on teaching.

The Internet has resulted in increased use of itself in the educational field; whether you want to plan an effective classroom or just want to improve student-teacher communication, these new technology tools come in handy. Therefore, educators are gaining more experience and knowledge about virtual environments and technological tools that enhance the teachinglearning experience. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of the uses of digital content developed during the specialization course by providing innumerable significant content in a detailed manner, covering virtual learning environments. The course has been divided into three different courses that conveyed online education information, focused on online resources for boosting students' knowledge, enhancing teachers-student relationship, meaningfully changing the learning methods and approaching teaching- learning to facilitate the process. The results obtained from the course have been improving knowledge focused on digital competencies for improving teacher experience by incorporating technological resources and digital platforms. In fact, developing deep knowledge into technological uses can modify the ways to teach, providing a potential and improving performance into real classes mainly unlocking new learning skills and experiences. The most accurate technological applications for teaching the English language

In the following project, the research team provided a synthesis of the virtual tools and platforms learned during the specialization course “Administración de Ambientes Virtuales para la Enseñanza y Aprendizaje de Idiomas Extrangeros” ("Management of Virtual Environments for Teaching and Learning of Foreign Languages"); thus, teachers know the importance of the most common tools available for online teaching purpose. Furthermore, the complete course was divided into 3 modules which had 8 weeks each. In each module, students learned about different current technological tools and applications which provided students with extensive knowledge about them throughout the course. The first module focused mainly on online education and its applications in teaching the English language, specifically in the virtual teaching approach. Moreover, the second module focused on the theoretical fundaments and the use of technological tools for the teaching-learning of a foreign language in a virtual modality. Additionally, in module three students learned to use at least four web tools for the design of educational materials, and the preparation of other materials such as podcasts, online presentations, interactive images, videos among others. This project was a compilation of the activities carried out during the course with the aim of showing the learning obtained during it. Likewise, the result of each of the activities that were carried out throughout the course is shown through screenshots. Each activity is described according to the acquired knowledge of the student who carried it out. In addition, the students provided a variety of conclusions and recommendation. This paper compiles some of the best ways to manage a virtual environment, methods, activities, and applications that can be implemented based on the needs of the students and the course, as well as showing the importance of including technologies within the tools to teach content, mainly showing its benefits, this being part of the daily life of both students and teachers. The most common applications and websites used in teaching that can easily be acquired by students as well as showing the way in which a completely virtual and interactive case can be prepared that meets what is necessary to maintain interest of students in the course as if it were developed in the traditional way. The specialization course was divided into 3 modules of 2 months each, in which participants were focus on describing, knowing, and creating their own materials using the applications and websites explained during the course as well as showing their own way on how they can be applied in Language Learning and Language teaching and the development of a virtual environment in a course. Education has experienced several changes during the last 3 years; one of those changes is the raise of virtual education. For this reason, teachers have been obliged to develop and manage virtual classrooms using two important tools: Internet connection and a phone or computer. I order to approach virtual classrooms, it is very important for teachers to be up-to-date on the use of apps and websites that can help them to develop understandable and interesting classes. There are several apps and websites teachers can use to develop their classes: They can find apps to develop presentations, to create conferences, to have practice activities, to have production activities, to make evaluations and exams, etc. The only thing they need to do is to make a little research on how to use them and start to make use of such apps and websites. The New Methodologies for Learning how to Teach a Foreign Language by Using Virtual Tools

This final report focuses in an online specialization course, developed from August, 2021, to February, 2022. This was the first experience that the Department of Foreign Languages had offering this innovating course. It served as a new modality that students could take as a substitute for the classic graduation work. In the new plan, students learned about how to apply technological strategies and how to exploit other tools that nowadays the technology offers us to be updated. One important thing is that the course was developed online by professors who were very capable to contribute to students´ learning and at the same time to prepare them to deal the technological and professional environment which have become so popular after the coronavirus pandemic. The experiences, main activities and principal course achievements are detailed in the present report. Distance education has gained importance during the coronavirus pandemic since school principals and teachers had to find alternatives to guarantee and support education continuity. As a result, the University Of El Salvador created a new modality of graduation process which is ‘‘Management Of Virtual Environments For Teaching And Learning Of Foreign Languages’’. This Specialization Course consisted to know and learn the use of different virtual platforms, tools and websites, that can be use in a virtual environment. This was divided in three modules: Online English Language Teaching, Educational Applications for Learning a Foreign Language and The Design of Didactic Materials for Virtual Environments. Students were capable to create didactic materials by making use of infographics, video editing, podcast, interactive image and others. This field has brought excellent results since teachers and students can handle different tools in an easy and dynamic way. Online education has grown significantly due to the digital age and the covid-19 pandemic, it can be said that the future of online classes is bringing a revolution in the field of education.
