    The impact of using computer assisted language learning to enhance the listening skill Performance of Advanced Intensive English I students at the Foreign Language Department of the University of El Salvador, semester II 2017

    The following research project aims to describe the impact of using computer assisted language learning to enhance the listening skill performance of Advanced Intensive English I students at the Foreign Language Department of the University of El Salvador, semester II 2017. This report describes how the use of Schoology platform can enhance the comprehension and development of the listening skill of the students. The listening skill is an active practice that allows students to process, recognize, internalize and interpret information in their brains. This process is very important specially when learning a foreign language because it gives the opportunity to recognize, words, sound and mainly the message of the new language. Since technology has become a major concern most institutions had implemented it in their English educational work. There are nowadays many educational platforms in order to help the students in their learning process. Moreover, identifying the advantages and disadvantages encountered when using technology resources to improve listening skill. In this research the research team used a platform named Schoology to practice listening. Schoology is a Learning Management System (LMS) for K-12 schools, higher education institutions and corporations that allow users to create, manage, and share content and resources. It is also known as a Course Management System (CMS) or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), founded by Jeremy Friedman, Ryan Hwang, Tim Trinidad and Bill Kindler. The purpose is to analyze the impact of using computer Assisted Language to enhance listening skill where students were constantly doing exercises such as watching videos, listening to conversations and answering questions. This paper will explain the process followed by the research team to analyze the impact of using computer assisted language when practicing activities to improve the listening skill through CALL practice that is learning and improving English through the use of technology using websites and platforms. For carrying out this process, the team considered that the most appropriate method was quantitative method, the members of the research decided to present the data gathered by using numbers. It was also an experimental research in which there were two groups that were studied, the experimental and the control groups were studied to find out the difference of being in a computer assisted language treatment and not been in any treatment. Finally, the comparison was known at the end of the research when having the results of both groups, both groups had the results for their TOEFL Cambridge test that were used to measure the students’ knowledge at the beginning and at the end of the experimental treatment.

    The purpose of this study is toidentify the use of electronic devices for academic purposes and social media that can be used in the classroom to propose standar policies that may be implemented in the classroom by teachers and students of the Advanced English I course, semester II - 2017 of English Teaching and Modern Languages major at the University of El Salvador. In this age Smartphones, Computers, Tablets, and many other electronic devices are part of humankind, every day people are in contact with electronical devices, even for work, study or entertainment. If you take a look around you, probably you could see that each person around you have a direct contact with some electronic device, and this is because they are useful, even for basic activities like communicating with other people. ITU‘s flagship annual Measuring the Information Society Report, reveals that 3.2 billion people are now online, representing 43.4% of the global population, while mobilecellular subscriptions have reached almost 7.1 billion worldwide, with over 95% of the global population now covered by a mobile-cellular signal‖.
