| dc.description.abstract | The study was carried out to find out and to make a description of the teachinglearning process focusing on the professor’s management in overcrowded and nonovercrowded classrooms from the Foreign Language Department at the University of El Salvador, San Salvador. The population of the study included enrolled students in the subjects of Intensive Basic English I and Intensive French I on the first year of the Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages with specialization in French and English. With this study it was possible to identify some of the challenges faced by the professors in these classrooms. Close questionnaires, interviews and class observation guides were the tools of the research, which were administered to professors and students. Besides there was a direct observation of the groups (overcrowded and non-overcrowded) by the researchers in order to get a clear picture of the challenges faced by them. The data was given both quantitative and qualitative treatment. The outcome of the study indicated the effectiveness in learning in overcrowded and in non-overcrowded classes where the majority of the professors were facing instructional, disciplinary, and physical and assessment related challenges. In order to solve these challenges some implementable advices were made, which suggested that the University should create strict rules and policies regarding the optimum number of students in classrooms and providing sufficient funds in order to improve facilities and hire more faculty. | es |
