dc.description.abstractTITULO: PROPUESTA PARA UN DICCIONARIO DE LA FLORA ORNAMENTAL SALVADOREÑA EN EL DISTRITO DE SAN MIGUEL. El presente artículo se inscribe en el marco de la elaboración de una propuesta de diccionario especializado en flora ornamental del distrito de San Miguel, cuya orientación responde a la necesidad de contar con un recurso lexicográfico en el ámbito botánico salvadoreño. OBJETIVOS. El proyecto plantea como objetivo principal la recopilación y sistematización de los nombres comunes con los que se identifican diferentes plantas ornamentales en el distrito de San Miguel, de manera que se pueda visibilizar la riqueza de la variación lingüística existente en torno a la denominación de estas especies, considerando que, en muchos casos, las comunidades locales no utilizan los nombres científicos, sino que recurren a designaciones coloquiales profundamente enraizadas en la tradición cultural. METODOLOGIA. El proceso metodológico se desarrolló a partir de entrevistas realizadas a mujeres mayores de cuarenta años, seleccionadas en función de poseer como mínimo un nivel educativo equivalente al noveno grado, así como experiencia comprobable en el cultivo y cuidado de plantas ornamentales. Durante las entrevistas se emplearon preguntas abiertas, lo que permitió obtener información detallada, espontánea y contextualizada acerca de las denominaciones locales de las plantas, sus características distintivas y las prácticas culturales relacionadas con su uso y cuidado. CONCLUSIÓN. Los hallazgos confirman que, en el distrito de San Miguel, las plantas ornamentales son conocidas y designadas principalmente a partir de sus nombres comunes, mientras que la denominación científica pasa inadvertida en la práctica cotidiana. This article is part of the development of a proposed specialized dictionary of ornamental flora in the San Miguel district. Its purpose is to respond to the need for a lexicographic resource in the Salvadoran botanical field. OBJECTIVES. The main objective of the project is to collect and systematize the common names used to identify different ornamental plants in San Miguel distric, so that the richness of linguistic variation that exists around the naming of these species can be visualized, considering that, in many cases, local communities do not use scientific names, but instead resort to colloquial designations deeply rooted in cultural tradition. METHODOLOGY The methodological process was developed based on interviews with women over forty years of age, selected based on their educational level equivalent to at least ninth grade, as well as verifiable experience in the cultivation and care of ornamental plants. Open-ended questions were used during the interviews, which allowed for the collection of detailed, spontaneous, and contextualized information about the local names of plants, their distinctive characteristics, and the cultural practices related to their use and care. CONCLUSION The findings confirm that, in San Miguel distric, ornamental plants are known and designated primarily by their common names, while their scientific names are overlooked in everyday practice.
