    Application of fundamental techniques and tools for the translation of legal, technical, personal and academic documents from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.

    The present work encompasses the process followed by the students in order to achieve the necessary scores to pass the translation fundamentals course. At the beginning, the work reviews the basic concepts of translation and its importance. In addition, the report shows different technological translation resources, computerassisted translation tools (CAT tools) and the main translation techniques, learned during this course, that are implemented to accomplish good translation works that fit the needs of the text or documents translated. The report also compiles different documents in the fields where translation assistance is required, such as: technology; with operation manuals and car magazines; academic degrees and birth, death and marriage, among other legal certificates that often demand professional translation services; all of them part of the practices completed by the students throughout the course and translated from the source language to the target language (from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English). At last, conclusions and recommendations exhibit the expertise accomplished by the students after all the translation practice performed within the specialization.

    In this portfolio various types, methods, and techniques of translation will be explained. A definition of the translation process will be presented in a deeper context and following, the translation process developed by the group, step-by-step, illustrating how it works. Additionally, several translation techniques will be discussed, each accompanied by an example.0Some documents have been included in this portfolio in both their original and translated versions. In addition to modified photos from books and manuals, official papers like diplomas and certificates are displayed. Conclusions regarding the translation practices are presented at the conclusion of the report.

    The practice of translation requires far more than the simple ability to communicate in two languages. While it is often assumed that bilingualism guarantees accurate translation, the process involves a series of intricate steps. The essence of translation lies in transferring what remains unspoken from one language to another. Words carry memories and their own histories, and no two words ever share an identical meaning. To recreate these subtleties in another language, it is necessary to understand the elements that shaped the original text, deconstruct them, and then reconstruct them within the framework of the target language.     Initiation in the translation world starting with principles, techniques, professional tools and process of translation applied on documents and texts from English to Spanish and vice verse.

    The first module started with a brief induction of the translation history and its beginning and development by presenting clear examples of it. Besides that, in the first stage, the translation myths were presented and refuted by the translation teacher. Then, students were able to have a perspective of what imply the oblique and literal translation methods. On the other hand, the second module, The Translation Process, involved the analysis of different translation processes and important information for a successful result. In addition, students learned the types of texts and their characteristics. In the second module, the different translation processes were applied in order to identified the specific characteristics in the assigned documentation to be translated. The students of the course created their own translation process with the guidance of the teacher and with the knowledge acquired in the development of each class. During the development of the third module, Tools for Translation, students discovered and learned the use of useful tools to carry out a translation with efficient advantages, such as dictionaries and virtual translators. In the last module, all the knowledge acquired was put into practice and advanced software was used for the translation of important and complex documents. Finally, a series of exhaustive translations were carried out to corroborate and demonstrate in practice the knowledge and information acquired during the course.

    The language translation process is a complex and intricate endeavor that involves bridging linguistic and cultural gaps to convey a message accurately and effectively in another language (Postan, 2023). This paper presents the fundamentals that encompass the practical concept of translation, as well as the methods and techniques that contribute to the development of this discipline. Furthermore, it demonstrates the application of different translation tools, necessary for the efficient development of the process of translation. This portfolio introduces basic translation concepts and principles, presenting the requirements that support the guided translation process. Along these lines, constructive foundations are presented, encompassed in the practical model. Translation techniques are also established, emphasizing the importance and highlighting why they are vital when conducting translations in the academic or professional field. In turn, all the translation practices carried out along each of the modules comprising the fundamentals of the translation course, are presented. These translations will demonstrate applied techniques and concepts, making use of assisted and automatic translation tools necessary for the practical development of the aforementioned tasks. This report presents the basis of different translation techniques and tools applied in the process of translation, necessary for the development of accurate and reliable translation works. Furthermore, fundamentals and basic concepts of the translation process are presented, conveying basic principles necessary for the design of structured models.

Furthermore, there is a compilation of real life examples of translation (educational resources, images, text documents, legal documents and academic documents).     This project focuses on the processes, tools and best practices to achieve a high translation quality. Throughout this final project, various legal documents have been included; documents such as birth certificates, school reports and others which were translated from Spanish to English and vice versa. Each of the tasks that were executed highlight the importance of accuracy, cultural adaptation, and maintaining the original tone in translations. Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, like translation memory systems, were used to ensure consistency and efficiency throughout the process. Additionally, resources like WordReference and Google Translate complemented the work by providing quick translations and linguistic insights. This portfolio reflects the application of different translation theories and techniques, along with the use of advanced technologies to guarantee high-quality translations. Key steps such as the initial text analysis; drafting, reviewing, and final proofreading were followed to deliver accurate and culturally appropriate products. Finally, recommendations are provided, offering useful strategies for improving translation skills.

    It is well known that translation is the process of transferring a text from a source language into the target language. The following text is to summarize how essential the translation process is when having the ability of speaking more than one language. It is essential to consider the use of specific tools in order to keep the original meaning of each document, to reach this result many techniques can be use. By following the instruction from the techniques and tools, these techniques have been proposed in order to be accurate at the moment to adapt the source language. In relation to translation, this does not mean converting the text by a human being. It is also focusing on the tools which the translator can use. Everyone should focus on how translation is playing a big role in the world; this is making the difference. Taking into consideration that nowadays all books are written in a source language, these tools are going to be helpful since the largest documents can be translated in an accurate way. To conclude about translation which is one of the most common processes since these techniques will facilitate people at the moment to communicate. Translation methods relate to whole texts, translation procedures are used for sentences and the smaller units of language. These methods give the choice and opportunity to engage people to keep learning and discovering other languages. Ha permitido además a las personas acceder a una mayor amplia gama de conocimientos y a una mayor autoconciencia al permitir con su aplicación que descubrimientos, artículos y libros escritos en un determinado idioma pueda ser trascrito en otros idiomas y de esta manera ser más accesibles para las personas que no se pueden permitir el viajar o aprender el idioma de la fuente original. En este documento hablamos de hecho sobre la importancia que juega la traducción en el mundo globalizado de hoy en día. Además de ello, se habla tanto de los breves inicios de la traducción, así como de las técnicas que se pueden emplear para su uso, ya que como se verá más adelante, traducir es más que solo transcribir una palabra de un idioma a otro. Por último, también se mostrarán los diferentes trabajos traducidos durante el desarrollo de este curso, los cuales comprenden temáticas diversas entre sí, desde imágenes educativas (esquemas del sistema digestivo, partes de una planta, comics), así como traducción de manuales de usuarios y artículos de índole social, para terminar con traducción de certificados de nacimiento, matrimonio y auténticas de documentos legales. This document in fact discusses the importance of translation in today's globalized world. In addition, it discusses both the brief beginnings of translation as well as the techniques that can be employed for its use, since as will be seen below, translating is more than just transcribing a word from one language to another.     El trabajo tiene como propósito analizar la traducción como una actividad compleja que va más allá de la simple sustitución de palabras entre lenguas. A lo largo del estudio, se destaca que una traducción de calidad requiere no solo dominio lingüístico, sino también comprensión del contexto, la cultura y la intención comunicativa del texto original. En este documento aborda la relevancia de la traducción en un mundo globalizado, donde esta cumple un papel fundamental como puente entre culturas, facilitando el acceso al conocimiento, la comunicación intercultural y la democratización de la información en áreas como la educación, la ciencia, la tecnología y los ámbitos legales y administrativos. Asimismo, se presenta y explica el proceso de traducción, el cual se desarrolla en varias etapas: lectura y análisis del texto, investigación terminológica, elaboración de un borrador, edición y corrección, revisión final y entrega. Este proceso permite garantizar coherencia, naturalidad y fidelidad al mensaje original. De igual manera, se describen y ejemplifican diversas técnicas de traducción —como la transposición, modulación, amplificación, adaptación y equivalencia— destacando su utilidad para resolver problemas lingüísticos y culturales. Finalmente, el trabajo incluye un portafolio de traducciones reales que abarca textos académicos, documentos legales, certificados, manuales y materiales educativos, lo cual evidencia la aplicación práctica de la teoría estudiada. Las conclusiones resaltan la importancia del trabajo colaborativo, la reflexión crítica y la formación continua de cada traductor como elementos clave para producir traducciones precisas y de alta calidad, reafirmando la traducción como una actividad profesional, ética y en constante evolución. The purpose of the work is to analyze translation as a complex activity that goes beyond the simple substitution of words between languages. Throughout the study, it is emphasized that a quality translation requires not only linguistic mastery but also an understanding of the context, culture, and communicative intent of the original text. This document addresses the relevance of translation in a globalized world, where it plays a fundamental role as a bridge between cultures, facilitating access to knowledge, intercultural communication, and the democratization of information in areas such as education, science, technology, and legal and administrative fields. Also, the translation process is presented and explained, which unfolds in several stages: reading and analyzing the text, terminological research, drafting, editing and proofreading, final revision, and delivery. This process ensures coherence, naturalness, and fidelity to the original message. Similarly, various translation techniques—such as transposition, modulation, amplification, adaptation, and equivalence—are described and exemplified, highlighting their usefulness in resolving linguistic and cultural challenges. Finally, the work includes a portfolio of real translations encompassing academic texts, legal documents, certificates, manuals, and educational materials, demonstrating the practical application of the theory studied. The conclusions highlight the importance of collaborative work, critical reflection, and ongoing professional development for each translator as key elements for producing accurate, high-quality translations, reaffirming translation as a professional, ethical, and constantly evolving activity.

    This portfolio analyzes the translation process and the different techniques that can be used to produce high quality translations of a number of documents. It shows how different translation strategies, tools and approaches can be applied to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the translation process. This work describes the translation process step-by-step, from the initial analysis of the source text to the final revision of the target text. It also points out the use of translation tools, such as bilingual dictionaries and computer-assisted translation (CAT) programs, which improve the efficiency and quality of translations. In addition, the portfolio presents real-life examples in which different translation techniques were applied to obtain high-quality results, and this analysis also includes recommendations to improve the translation process and it reflects on the skills acquired during the course. This study demonstrates that translation is not only a practical activity, but also an essential tool in the development of communication.

    En el presente proyecto por medio de la práctica de los diversos métodos conocidos para llevar a cabo un proyecto de traducción fiel al documento en el idioma original. El proceso de traducción no es una fórmula estática por lo cual a lo largo de la historia se han empleado muchas estrategias y métodos para lograr la efectividad y profesionalización de las distintas traducciones. Para esta recopilación de proyectos se tomaron en cuenta todos los conocimientos y técnicas adquiridas tomando en cuenta de manera general que, los procesos de traducción pueden variar dependiendo del enfoque de cada traductor o del público al que la traducción es dirigida, debido a ello, es necesario tener en cuenta no solo el conocimiento del idioma meta, sino también realizar una investigación adecuada al tipo de documento para ser capaces de utilizar el vocabulario apropiado para cada tipo de traducción, ya sea que se de un mensaje de texto o incluso un manual de equipo para uso profesional. Cada una de estas traducciones son el producto de una minuciosa investigación con el fin de presentar ejemplos del proceso de traducción moderna, empleando no solo las técnicas y métodos clásicos de la traducción, sino también, a través de la práctica, el uso nuevas metodologías y de las tecnologías emergentes, tales como: bases de datos globales, traductores automáticos, herramientas de edición de imagen que posibilitan un resultado de la traducción mucho más eficaz.
