It was also noticed that there was already a research project focused on the difficulties found while developing the Practice Teaching in the CENIUES English Program. Even though the information was related to the topic under study, the group considered that there is some sort of novelty because the research is focused on a different environment. The present research Project aims to describe a study about the tutor-teacher’s role upon student-teachers developing their practicum in the PNC English Teaching program and in some subjects of the B.A of English Teaching at the Foreign Language Department in the University of El Salvador. This report describes the way in which the appropriate development of the tutor-teacher’s role can affect student-teachers’ performance during the development of the entire practice teaching period. Tutoring is an activity that can be beneficial when it is given in appropriate ways. This process is very important especially when student-teachers are developing their teaching skills because it gives the students the opportunities to build confidence and increase their classroom management. There has been inconsistence from tutor-teachers when complying with their roles. This paper will also explain the process followed by the research team to collect meaningful and effective information regarding the real role of tutor-teachers assigned a student-teacher. For carrying out this present study, the research questions were answered by surveys and interviews. These questionnaires were useful to collect information about the point of view of tutor-teachers and student-teachers about the role of tutor teachers while mentoring students developing their practice teaching. With the implementation of this, the researchers were able to obtain and compare information about the main findings to respond the research questions.Item A descriptive study of speaking activities implemented in Basic Intensive English I courses (groups 05 - 06) semester I at the Foreign Language Department at University of El Salvador.(2018-06-15) Hernández Ángel, Mónica Alejandra; Marin Repreza, Victoria Evelyn; Orellana Martínez, Katherine Judith; Mata Chávez, Miguel Ángel; Contreras, MauricioItem A diagnosis of the current state of the teaching of english offered to the Departaments and Schools of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities by the Foreing Languages Department of the University of El Salvador(2009-01-01) Canjura Palma, Manuel de Jesús; Márquez Segovia, Ana Ruth; Ruiz Saravia, Jensy Soyett; Franco Ramos, Rina; Franco Ramos, RinaFor more than two decades, the Foreign Languages Department of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities has taught English courses to different Schools of the University of El Salvador whenever it has been required by them. According to the faculty, many different schools include the English subject either as part of the curricula or as an elective course, but because many of these Departments and Schools do not count on specialized personnel to teach those courses, the Foreign Languages Department through the “Service Area,” teaches English to those schools and Departments that require this service. The present project makes reference to the current state of the English TeachingLearning Process to students from different schools of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. This research was focused on two aspects mainly. First, it focused on the kind of service provided to those schools by the Foreign Languages Department; and second to find out if the main objectives of each major benefited with this service are accomplished.Item A Diagnosis on motivation, anxiety, and self-esteem which influence student'oral skill(2008-08-29) Aceituno Herrera, Roxana Elizabeth; Melara Cañas, Sonia Leticia; Serpas Flores, Mirna Yesenia; Ayala, Edgar Nicolás; Sibrián, Rodolfo AlexanderThe learning process of a second language concerns to the development of four skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading). So, speaking English fluently is to express a wide range of ideas without unnecessary pauses or breakdowns in communication, and speaking English accurately is to use an acceptable standard of pronunciation and grammar when communicating.(Richards & Sandy, 1998) In the Intensive English courses at the Foreign Language Department, the students have the chance to develop their speaking skill by practicing new vocabulary in the classroom, explaining a topic, oral discussions, performing role plays, etc. However, during those courses there are different factors that influence in the students’ oral practice. Some of these factors are: motivation, anxiety and self- esteem which are relevant in the learning process. Some psychologists such as Krashen suggest that a number of affective variables play a facilitative, but non casual role in second language learning. These variables include: motivation, self-confidence and anxiety. Krashen claims that learners with high motivation, self-confidence, a good self-imaged and a low level of anxiety are better equipped to success in second language acquisition. Low motivation, low self-esteem and debilitating anxiety can combine to raise the affective filter and form a mental block that prevents comprehensible input from being used for learning. So, this last report describes the main findings obtained at the end of the research where those factors make an influence on students´ learning since the affective side of the learner is of great importance not just the cognitive side because learning a second language implies to take into account how the students feel at the moment of practicing English in class. Thus, learners must be seen as people with likes, dislikes, fears, weaknesses, strengths and prejudicesItem A diagnostic study of target language speaking problems. Case of: Advanced intensive english I, Intermediate intensive english I and Readings and conversation I students at the Foreign Languages Department, UES, semester II, 2015(2015-01-01) Ángel Avalos, Evelin Patricia; Henríquez Cañas, Andrea Lissette; Martínez De Ramírez, Elva Eunice; Garay Salinas, José RicardoIn today‟s world, learning English as a second language has become an important and useful tool due to the fact that opens many doors to different cultures and job fields that demand mastering the four language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) which are crucial to obtain all the necessary knowledge to become competent and proficient in the language. However, many English as a foreign language learners‟ face many obstacles during their learning process mainly in the speaking area. There are several oral communication problems that learners are facing nowadays, for instance: Interference of mother tongue (L1), lack of vocabulary knowledge, grammar as a stumbling block, inadequate pronunciation and intonation, few opportunities to speak English in class, lack of exposure to the target language, poor input environment for spoken communication outside the class, among others. As a result of these problems, many of them do not achieve a satisfactory level of communicative competence. This level is ultimately achieved when the learner masters a set of sub skills in regards to speaking. Some of these sub-skills are pronunciation, intonation, accuracy and fluency that will help them to overcome oral communication problems in the target language. This research aims to identify the different oral communication problems students of a second language are facing in the Intermediate Intensive English I, Advanced Intensive English I and Readings and Conversation I courses during the semester II, 2015, in order to propose possible strategies, methodologies and techniques, to overcome them as a way for improving the quality of their oral proficiency in the target language.Item A presentation of language learning improvement and communication strategies used by the Intensive Intermediate English II Students of Bachelor of Arts In English of The Foreign Language Department with Emphasis in Teaching at University of ElSalvador during the semester I of the year 2021(2021-09-21) Torres Cruz, Arnoldo Javier; Umanzor Girón, José Ernesto; Fuentes Fuentes, Oscar Alberto; Mendizabal Arévalo, Odir Alexander; Contreras Cárcamo, Mauricio SalvadorEste trabajo aborda el aprendizaje del inglés en un ambiente donde se habla español resulta difícil para los estudiantes de lengua extranjera en la FLD de la Universidad de El Salvador, específicamente aquellos estudiantes que están tomando Inglés Intensivo Intermedio II. Putman, Greenberg & Walsh (2014). The research project presented is a result of an effort to find ways to minimize or reduce the classroom management difficulties that novice students face when developing their teaching practice at CENIUES Kid’s Program due to the lack of preparation and experience in the area. Considering that even for senior teachers with lots of years of experience the daily business of teaching is really hard, what Putman, Greenberg & Walsh claim; supports the difficulties that Student-Teachers face while developing the teaching practice process. When novice student-teachers do not have the opportunity to observe and/ or have some previouspractice with some specific groups of learners (kids, teenagers, or adults) and learn from this experience, they are in disadvantage because they do not manage appropriate methodologies and teaching strategies, situation that can produce a sense of uncertainty during the practicum process. Taking into accountthe information above and based ona study related to the difficulties faced by Student-Teachers from the Bachelor of Arts in English with Emphasis in Teaching in 2016 which is mainly focused on student-teachers that carry out their practicum at CENIUES, researchers conclude that novice Student-Teachers face different types of obstacles such as: lack of classroom management strategies and not appropriate orientation by tutors. These difficulties coupled with the fact thatonly one of the Teaching English as a Foreign Languages’ (TEFL) courses syllabuses considers a few topics oriented to teach children, it can be said that Student Teacherslack of knowledge on how to work with them. So, guiding them appropriately with successful teaching skills thus crucially involve knowledge, decision-making and action( Fyriacou C. 2007). This will create a feeling of confidence when being in a classroom and definitely better results would be obtained at the end of the learning process.Item A research about the labor market in which students from the B.A. in english, emphasis in teaching, from the Foreign Languages Department at the University of El Salvador worked, during the period of 2,006 to 2,011(2013-08-01) Barahona López, María Ermelinda; Rodríguez López, Ana Ruth; Moreno Morán, Cristian Lisandro; Gamero Ortiz, José Ricardo; Garay Salinas, RicardoThe present document describes a formal research, which has been done based on the facts about labor market for bilingual people, personal issues regarding priorities on students’ lives, family ties that might interfere with their formal studies, level of proficiency acquired by students, the contrast between working and studying at the same time and its effects on students’ outcomes, taking into account also the time students have in the major. It is also important to mention that the sample is composed not only by students, but also graduates, who are already exerting their abilities in the teaching field or in any other one that has to do with the English Language use.Item A revision of the current elective courses of the B.A. in English language teaching of the Foreign Language Department at the University of El Salvador, semesters I and II - 2018: a proposal for curriculum change(2018-01-01) Villatoro Huezo, Gabriela Alejandra; Martínez Hernández, Dany Alexander; Cardoza Alvarado, Karina Rosibel; Carranza Campos, Miguel Ángel; Contreras Cárcamo, Mauricio SalvadorThe University of El Salvador has different requirements for students to earn a degree and offers all of the required courses every semester. When it comes to taking college classes there is a certain degree of planning and forethought required. Nowadays, college degree programs are becoming critical aspects of a successful career. Therefore, in the University of El Salvador students require a blend of both core courses that are focused on their degree program and elective courses that expand on their interests and fundamental critical thinking skills. Core courses include subjects that teach necessary and valuable information that are directly related to their field of study. On the other hand, the elective courses are those offered throughout the major as per student’s election, which means that a group of courses is presented out of which the student can freely choose which ones to course base on their academic needs or personal bias. Furthermore, the need of making a revision on the elective courses offered on the major of English in every specific semester is really essential due to the fact that most of the syllabi provided by a college or university have direct consequences on the learning development of the students and; therefore, these courses have to be aligned with the current society demands and laws. There are some reasons why some elective courses should be considered to be added on the current curriculum of the B.A in English. One of the strongest reasons is that some elective courses provide ways for students to increase their knowledge in a specific area on the foreign language. Moreover, some elective courses are the key for students to make a decision on studying a master’s degree (for example a master’s degree in translation).Item A Study of the application of Teaching Strategies Used in the English Course for 5 Year-Old Kids at Centro de Desarrollo Infantil “Mis Primeros Pasitos”(2019-03-08) Gámez de Castro, Silvia Evelyn; Hernández Nájera, Lorena Lissette; Alfaro Pérez, Yasayra Enedina; Rodríguez Argueta, Francisco Antonio; Contreras Cárcamo, Mauricio SalvadorItem A study of the professional profile of the students pending their graduation work from the Bachelor in Arts in English: Emphasis in Teaching, at the Foreign Language Department, in the University of El Salvador, in the year 2020.(2021-11-01) Rodríguez Álvarez, Mónica Stephanie; Sibrian Rolin, Brenda Yamileth; Vides de Guzmán, Claudia Marina; Carranza Campos, Miguel ÁngelThis study describes the professional profile that the students who are pending their graduation work, in the year 2020, reached from the Bachelor of Arts in English: Emphasis in Teaching.
