This characteristic enhances people to establish a better relationship with other people. It is not only what people say, but also the way they say it what can make them more reliable and skilled at the moment of performing a task, or encountering a situation in which the use of the mother tongue is not allowed. This research tries to set the difference in fluency among both majors by questioning and reviewing the dedication consecrated to learn a second language. In order to gather the data, some placement tests and interviews were assigned and performed to evaluate the knowledge that students have acquired through the years of study. The information stored in their brains is clearly related to the fluency at the moment of communicating an idea since a person without enough vocabulary would not be able to produce a clear speech. However, there are some blind spots that need to be covered in both majors but the main one is how to make students be aware about their speaking progress since there is a lack of consistency at the moment of delivering a message.Item A description of the humanitarian sense of the 5th year students of The School of Arts and Social Sciences of the University of El Salvador seen through the students´ participation in social programs during the first semester of 2018(2018-10-01) Guerra Mejía, Valeria Madai; Henríquez Marroquín, Katherine Iliana; Rosales Portillo, Evelyn Beatriz; Blandón de Castro, Norma Cecilia; Contreras Cárcamo, Mauricio SalvadorA description of the humanitarian Sense of the students of the 5th year of The School of Arts and Social Sciences of the University of El Salvador seen through the student's participation in Social Programs during the first Semester 2018”. Then writing deficiencies are obvious. For this reason, it is important to say that academic writing involves many requirements that students must put into practice to avoid difficulties and complications at the moment of writing essays or report papers. Besides, not only self-strategies influence students’ performance, but also the effectiveness of the methods and techniques that teachers apply in their English Composition courses. Each method is useful with some students but fails with others, so writing needs to persist and teachers must take into account other strategies if they want their students to develop effective writing skills. Therefore, students and teachers must work together as a team. If students want to improve their writing skills, only in this way they will have good results and they will notice the difference in their compositions.Item An overview of seminar II students’ employability skills and the expected destinations to work: a students’ perspective from the Bachelor of arts in modern Languages with specialization in French and English at the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of El Salvador, year 2015(2016-04-20) Girón Torres, Aarón Christian; Menjivar Beltrán, Dora Alicia; Reyes Méndez, Manuel Antonio; Mata Chávez, Miguel Ángel; Landaverde, Manuel AlexanderThis research paper provides the information of the procedure followed and findings of a research study of Modern Languages students’ perceptions of the employability skills developed in their major and the expected destinations to perform those skills. Writing is a complex skill since it requires a combination of grammar and syntax rules and the ability to write logically, legibly and in an organized way. In El Salvador, new programs have been implemented due to the lack of reading and writing skills. When students get to the university, they barely know how to write essays or reports. The new curriculum from MINED was updated in 2008 for Junior High and High School, and it has been implemented for the past years. It is based on communication skills either written or oral. Authorities from MINED are aware of educational transcendence based on competences and the new curriculum aims to enhance the reading comprehension skill and the writing profile of students (Programa de Educación Media, 2008). As students need to communicate orally, they also need to write compositions, essays, reports, homework assignments, lesson plans, among others. On one hand, it is a fact that students not always use writing outside the classroom. Most of the time, when students get a job, they are not asked or required to write academic texts that need composition skills. On the other hand, when students want to apply for a scholarship, for example, they need to write academic essays in order to get it. They need to have the proper knowledge and skills to produce a well-written academic text. For this reason, this research aims to analyze the current profile of composition skills among students of both majors, the Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching and the Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages at the Foreign Language Department.Item Analysis of the profile demanded by the workplaces contrasted with hecompetences developed during the study years by the 2014-graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in English with Emphasis in Teaching of the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of El Salvador(2017-06-16) Cabezas Méndez, Adriana Angélica; García Osorio, Sabrina Osiris; González Alfaro, Ingrid Carolina; Blandón de Castro, Norma Cecilia; Landaverde, Manuel AlexanderThis research work was carried out with the 2014-graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in English with Emphasis in Teaching, their employers and professors of the Department of Foreign Languages of the University of El Salvador. The information was collected through an online questionnaire for the graduates and an in situ interview with employers and professors. The purpose was to analyze the professional and personal competences that these graduates developed during the academic formation received at the UES. In order to fulfill the objective, it was necessary to inquire about the 2014-graduates’ labor insertion process, the evaluation of the career from the point of view of both the graduates and the professors of the Department, and the relevance of graduates’ academic formation related with the accomplishment of the labor demands and the philosophical framework of the University. It also describes the degree of satisfaction of the employers with respect to the graduates’ work performance.
